KIARA DANYELE SMITH, M.ED.

EDUCATOR'S
BIO
Hello, my name is Kiara Smith. I am an eighth-year English Language Arts teacher. I currently teach tenth and twelfth grade in the East Bay Area of California though I have also taught reading intervention and Honors English as well. I'm proud to have received my Master of Education degree from Vanderbilt University's Learning, Diversity, and Urban Studies program in 2017, my single-subject teaching credential from Mills College in 2018, and to currently be working toward my Doctorate of Education at the University of San Francisco. My research interests include preventative and healing practices for Black female educators facing burnout, how anti-Blackness and xenophobia impact AfroLatin communities, the relationship between Black and Latinx communities, especially as they pertain to language, literacy, and culture, and Black liberatory curriculum. I am passionate about this work and am excited to share in community with you!
